One Step

One step sparring is best described as pre arranged fighting. The attacker takes one step and attacks their opponent with a forward punch. It is the defenders job to evade the attack and perform a controlled counter attack. Using this method techniques can be used which if not controlled and pre arranged would seriously damage an opponent.

Self Defence

Self defence is again a form of pre arranged fighting but this time the attack could come in any form such as a grab, kick or punch. The defender disables the attacker by the use of various strikes, throws or takedowns.

Patterns

Patterns are a set of blocks kicks and strikes which are performed against imaginary opponents. Each move is itself a set of moves which when combined have focus, balance and power.

Sparring

Free sparring when all the training gets put into practice. Two opponents face each other and use various techniques in an attempt to score points. In class this is done in a controlled light contact manner but in competitions it is full contact with the players wearing chest, head, arms, feet and groin guards.
